The three-stage pusher centrifuge is a continuous filtration centrifuge that performs feeding, separation, cleaning, and discharge without interruption at maximum operational speed. It incorporates three drums of increasing diameter. As it goes from the smaller drum to the bigger ones, the filter cake has more chances to be flipped over more times. Since the overall filtration zone is longer, the cake is under separation for more time inside the drums. This results in lower cake moisture and less solids carryover in the mother liquor.

Operational Principle

The main motor first drives the nested first, second, and third stage drums at full speed. The material is fed to the feed pipe and evenly spread over the screen wall of the first drum section. Under centrifugal force, the liquid phase passes through the screen and the perforations in the drum wall and leaves the machine through the liquid outlet, while the solid phase is kept in the first drum as an annular cake layer.

The three drums rotate at the same speed. The pusher drives the second-stage drum and the pusher plate in a continuous back-and-forth motion along the axis. The pusher plate pushes the first-stage cake layer outward in stages, dumping it into the second-stage drum where it splits further and makes a new annular cake. The outer face of the first drum then moves the second-stage cake into the third drum, where it again separates apart, and the outer face of the second drum pushes the third-stage cake to the scraper, which discharges it from the machine through the scraper chute.
